Single Review: ‘Shell Suit’ by Short Sharp Scratch

A bit of funky soul to get your teeth into. Far from just a nostalgia trip to times of bold hair and even bolder outfits, the Brighton singer songwriter Jak Chantler has produced an absolute gem with his new release, Shell SuitJak Chantler, along with some help of a few other musical minds make up the brains behind this soulful operation, producing this ultimate ‘feel good’ track.

The awesome funky production with heavy influences of R’n’b and soul make for a really easy listening track to lift any mood. Assisted by “the man, the myth, the legend” – as described by Jack – and one half of Sundae Club’s George Shilling, means the end product is a finely polished groove filled work of art. Accompanied by the velvety smooth vocals of Izzy Warner, makes this track much more than an 80’s tribute song. Having recorded the track at the world famous Abbey Road studios, it’s no wonder the end product has come out sounding so beautiful and elegant.

Short Sharp Scratch have even had the likes of Seal supporting its performances as well as working with Charlie Andrew of Alt-J, Rick Astley. So there’s no problem with regards to musical pedigree. Jak and his fellow musical minds are making it their aim to transcend music that confides to certain eras, attempting to defy the barriers that genres often put up. Who knows, it might soon be time to dig that shell suit out the cupboard!
