The African pop trio Elani that originated from Bamako have released the infectious love song ‘Kookoo’ just in time for Valentine’s Day. The group consists of Wambui Ngugi, Brian Chweya and Maureen Kunga who formed the afropop band from a young age. They met at a Mali musical festival where they were actually competing against each other to win the top spot. What connected them together was that they’re all atheists despite living in a religious country.
In the past Elani have collaborated and worked alongside major artists such as Jose Chameleone and Sauti Sol and have even featured on the Pakistani music television series Coke studio.
