“Brilliant” – BBC Introducing 2012
Having impressed some pretty big names last year, Leeds based band We Were Frontiers are back with their debut EP ‘Giveth Taketh Away’.
Invited to play the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds off the back of their third gig as a group; it’s fair to say the band have done pretty well for themselves. Building on that solid foundation, they have gone on to sell out shows at the ever-cool ‘Nation Of Shopkeepers’ amongst other venues, setting both their local scene and the online bloggerspere alight.
Their latest release has really been a labour of love for the band who mixed, produced and recorded the EP entirely on their own – no mean feat. We have to say, the risk to keep the project entirely ‘in-house’ has paid off – listening to tracks like ‘Night Terrors’, it’s clear that taking their time has allowed for a definite growth and development in their song-writing skills. We thought it’d be hard to top Wildfire/Deamons, but the band have really outdone themselves with their latest four track offering. Dark themes and lyrics are juxtaposed with ambient upbeat melodies; with a few rockier riffs thrown in.
You’d be mad not to give them a listen.
We Were Frontiers release the EP Giveth Taketh Away on August 5th.
